Knee Pain

Knee pain is often a result of damage to the structures that surround the knee; it is also a common symptom of arthritis and obesity. Structures surrounding the knee that may become damaged and cause pain include: muscles, tendons, ligaments, joint capsule, bursae, cartilage and bone.

Because it is such a complex structure, the knee joint is one of the most commonly injured joints in the body. The knee joint has muscles from both the upper and lower leg attaching into it. It has many ligaments and a joint capsule holding it together. The cartilage in the knee joint allows the tibia and femur to move against each other. The bursae help to reduce friction from the muscles.

Injuries, excessive force and poor knee alignment are all common causes of knee pain. Sometimes knee pain can be referred pain from the hip or be a result of poor foot biomechanics. The Podiatrists at Jandakot Podiatry are able to assess your knee to determine what is causing the pain.

Treatments for knee pain include orthotics to improve biomechanics and knee alignment, trigger point therapy to alleviate tight muscles and the prescription of stretching and strengthening exercise programs.

At Jandakot Podiatry we often work with your doctor, physiotherapist or chiropractor to help treat difficult cases of knee pain. If you want to know more about how to fix knee pain please give us a call.
